Newton Stewart is the gateway to the Galloway Hills and is adjacent to the Galloway Forest Park, the largest in Britain with some 300 square miles of moorland, forest, lochs and hills.
So if the hustle and bustle of the show becomes too much there are plenty of roads to get away from it all, on two wheels or four. Just remember that the forest park is home to red deer, red squirrels and otters, and wildlife on the road is an ever present hazard. There have also been numerous sightings of a large black cat. You have been warned!
You will also be able to see black grouse, red kite and nightjars, so bring your camera and binoculars.
In complete contrast the area also has some 200 miles of coastline, so the opportunities for relaxation are limitless.
Why not make a weekend of it and book some accommodation? This will give you chance to explore the area and see what Scotland’s forgotten corner has to offer.
